After The Review - Last Chance Cowboy

Between The Pages ~ After The Review
A conversation with the Author
Last Chance Cowboy by Leigh Riker

What one thing would readers be surprised to know about you?
I’m a cradle robber! My husband is four years younger than I am. We’ve been together forever and he’s still The One.

Where did the inspiration for Last Chance Cowboy come from?
Actually, from The Reluctant Rancher, the first book of my Kansas Cowboys series. The instant Grey Wilson showed up at the Circle H in Chapter 3, I knew Logan Hunter’s friend and neighbor needed his own story. Plus, the reunion theme is one of my favorites, and the sparks were already/still flying between Grey and Shadow Moran so…I wanted to help get them together again. After a whole bunch of trouble, of course.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Because Last Chance Cowboy is also a secret baby story (another favorite theme), I loved writing the emotional and tender scenes in which Grey struggles to understand why Shadow kept their child from him and eventually respects her for the choices she made.

Will there be another book in the Kansas Cowboys series in the future? And if so, where will this story take us?
Yes! Book #3, Cowboy on Call, will be released in November. It’s the story of Logan’s estranged twin brother Sawyer, and—talk about conflict!—Logan’s ex-wife Olivia, the unrequited love of Sawyer’s life. He’s been away for years but is home again, and Olivia still blames him for a tragic accident long ago. She doesn’t want to make another mistake now. Olivia wants only to safeguard her young son—and her own heart.

What can we look forward to with your next writing project?
I just wrote a proposal for a fourth book in this series—and, possibly, a fifth story. I’m also working on another series idea that will leave the Kansas plains for San Francisco and a rather competitive family there but with similar “small town” roots.
