The Author's Den - From Kenya With Love

Joining me in The Author's Den on this chilly December day is Rula Sinara. Rula and I are enjoying a warm cup of rich, velvety roast coffee with chocolaty hints. We're sitting by the fire and chatting about her series, From Kenya with Love.

Rula, tell us a little about yourself.
Do you remember when teachers would make us write about ourselves at the beginning of the school year or when we had to ‘brag’ about ourselves on college applications? Those were always the toughest writing assignments for me. They still are! I’m thinking most writers prefer to write about other characters and people, but here’s my ‘official’ bio: National and USA Today Bestselling author Rula Sinara lives in rural Virginia with her family and crazy but endearing pets. She loves organic gardening, attracting wildlife to her yard, planting trees, raising backyard chickens and drinking more coffee than she'll ever admit to. Rula's writing has earned her a National Readers Choice Award and HOLT Medallion Award of Merit, among other honors. Unofficially, I’ll add that, this past year, I added 6 ducks and 3 swan geese to my backyard flock!

Let's get into your heartwarming series, From Kenya with Love

Serena and Austin carved their initials in its trunk and shared their first kiss under its canopy. But Serena's not one to let her emotions get in the way of a cause. Even if seeing Austin brings up all the pain she's tried to escape…and new feelings she can't ignore.T

Book 4: EVERY SERENGETI SUNRISE
December 2017

Elephants, Africa’s wild savannah and three best friends…

When attorney Maddie Corallis returns to Kenya to fight a humanitarian vs animal rights case, the last thing she expects is for her childhood friend, wildlife veterinarian Haki Odaba, to be the very man she’s up against. Loyal and protective, Haki would never turn his back on the elephants he’s devoted to saving, any more than Maddie could abandon the native tribes she’s come to protect. An impossible battle…but nothing compared to the fight they face when old feelings surface and the soul-deep connection they’ve always shared threatens the worst kind of betrayal...that of their dearest friend Pippa. The one Haki is expected to marry.

Denying their feelings is torture, but giving in is not an option. Not with the suffering it would cause. Besides, Maddie left Kenya once and she’ll be leaving again soon. An ocean, a case and a friend between them. Maybe love can’t always find a way…or can it?

The Author's Den - Heart and Dagger

Joining me in The Author's Den on this chilly December day is Holland Rae. Holland and I are enjoying a warm cup of tea called Tower of London blend, a black tea with plum! We're sitting by the fire and chatting about her new release, Heart and Dagger.

Holland, please tell us a little about yourself.
Holland Rae is the author of several works of erotic and romantic fiction in both the contemporary and historical genres, and enjoys pushing the limits of freedom, feminism, and fun in her stories. She has been an avid writer for many years, and recently moved back to her home state of New Jersey from Boston, after completing her education in journalism and creative writing. In her free time, she loves to travel, and spent several months living in a 14th century castle in the Netherlands. When not exploring the world, she likes dreaming up stories, eating spicy food, driving fast cars, and talking to strangers.

What’s your guilty writing procrastination secret?
Sometimes it’s reading! I always say I’ll reward myself with one chapter and, of course, it ends up being so much more than that! Sometimes I get really caught up in social media, which can be a huge timewaster! At least when I’m reading I’m getting smarter, right?

Where is your favourite writing spot?
Part of the reason I can’t fit any more books into my study/bedroom, is because two of the walls are entirely lined with windows, facing south-west and south-east, so I get both the rising of the morning sun and the setting of the late afternoon sun in my peripheral, without ever having to move my chair. It’s incredible beautiful and peaceful and makes my office feel like a treehouse!

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing?
Baking! I’m a huge baker, so I love listening to audiobooks and whipping up new projects. I also love learning new things, so classes, documentaries, museums, travel, I love all of it!

What can we look forward to with your upcoming or next writing project?
My new book, Heart and Dagger is the first story in the Ships in the Night series! I’m nearly done with the second draft of book two, Heart and Veil and I look forward to sharing that soon!

Lady Charlotte Talbot hasn’t seen Armand Rajaram de Bourbon, her oldest childhood friend and once betrothed, since his family returned to India when she was fifteen. Since then, she has left a groom at the altar, changed her name to Catalina Sol, opened a house for unwed mothers and orphans, and captained a ship, the Liberté, crewed by the best fighters in the Spanish Main. She’s no longer the lady he left behind, not that she’d admit to wishing he’d return.

When Armand’s brother is kidnapped, he breaks his rule of never engaging with pirates. But desperation drives him to the Liberté and a life he thought he’d left far behind. He’d do anything to save Henri, but Armand never expected to find Charlotte here, and now that’s he’s found her, he doesn’t have a clue what to do about it.

Together, they must face kidnapping, pirate captains, blackmail, and themselves. The Liberté may sail thousands of miles from the shores of England, but that might not be far enough to escape the past.
