Between The Pages - Mistletoe and the Lost Stiletto

Mistletoe and the Lost StilettoBy: Liz Fielding
Harlequin Romance
November 2010

Back Cover: Lucy Bright can’t believe it when she’s plucked from secretarial obscurity and transformed into the pampered fiancĂ©e of a slick retail guru. But then she discovers it was all a publicity stunt! Rushing away from the media frenzy, she bumps – literally – into the arms of delicious tycoon, Nathaniel Hart…

Review: There’s a line in this story that I want to quote: Just one look… That’s all it took when this book arrived. I knew with just one look that I was going to enjoy this story. The cover is beautiful and the story is a tender Christmas romance. I thought it was sweet when Lucy opted to call Nat by his full name, Nathaniel. And their chemistry jumps from the pages.

Between the Pages of this story is a fun romp in the snow, tender characters, a believable romance, a cute little elf, and a hero that no woman could resist.

Between The Pages - The Viking's Captive Princess

The Viking’s Captive Princess
By Michelle Styles
Harlequin Historical December 2009.

Dangerous warrior Ivar Gunnarson is a man of deeds, not words. With little time for the ideals of love, Ivar seizes what he wants - and Princess Thyre will not become the exception to his rule!
Review: I found this story dragged a bit at times, taking me a few chapters before I could get into it. I think this was because the genre (A Viking theme) was a first-read for me, so I wasn’t familiar the style. Once I did get into the story, I really enjoyed it.

Between The Pages of this story you’ll find passionate characters, unique setting, lots of action, and an interesting plot.

Between The Pages - A Wedding at leopard Tree Lodge

A Wedding at Leopard Tree Lodge
By Liz Fielding

Events planner Josie Fowler has scooped the wildest celebrity wedding of the year in a luxury lodge hotel in Botswana! She's surrounded by prowling leopards and crocodilefilled rivers, but more dangerous to her sanity is the resort owner - enigmatic entrepreneur Gideon McGrath. As Josie wrestles with taffeta and table plans, Gideon's takecharge approach is getting in her way and his sexy smile is getting under her skin.

Review: Liz Fielding’s descriptive voice of an extremely captivating setting has you wishing for your own tree-house hideaway. The addition of attention-grabbing characters makes this fast-paced story an enormous hit. Josie’s spunk and Gideon’s determination are a perfect match as the story develops and reveals the sensitivity behind these two characters.

Between the Pages of this story you’ll find a magnificent setting, a feisty heroine, and a sexy hero - a definite page-turner...who could ask for anything more!

Between the Pages - Mrs. Perfect

Mrs. Perfect
by Jane Porter
May 2008

Taylor Young is the prefect suburbanite trendsetter and super mom until she has to give up fairy-tale lifestyle. While struggling to maintain her alpha image, Taylor finds surprising help from her nemesis. Can Taylor let go of her ‘status-quo’ image to become the woman she really is?

Between The Pages
When I first bought this book, I had a difficult time getting through the first two chapters. Maybe I was distracted by something, but I put the book down and felt disappointed that it didn’t grab my attention better. A few weeks later, I picked it up again and started at page one. This time, it pulled me in and kept my attention all the way to the end. Its gripping storyline and real-to-life characters made me happy that I gave this book a second chance because it was well worth it! Recommendation: Read Odd Mom Odd (the story about Taylor’s nemesis, Marta) before Mrs. Perfect.

Between The Pages - Issue 13

Between The Pages - Book Review

Fashionably Late By Beth Kendrick

Becca Davis has always played it safe –denying her passion for fashion design in a dead-end job and letting her pragmatic boyfriend make the tough decisions in life. Becca realizes that she’s running out of time to turn her life around. Terrified but determined, Becca breaks off her engagement, moves in with her sister in Los Angeles, and prepares to take the fashion world by storm. With her design business taking off and her family starting to fall apart, she’s about to learn the timeless lesson of all: Love and fashion wait for no woman.

Review: I hadn’t read any of Beth Kendrick’s books before, but this one was bought upon the urging of my ‘fashionista’ daughter. After reading this book, I thanked my daughter for suggesting it, though I know her reason was because the story was about fashion.
Becca’s character always hid in the background, shadowed behind her sisters, an actress and psychologist. When she takes a stand and moves to Los Angeles to stay with her self-absorbed sister, the excitement begins. Their scenes together are enjoyable and compassionate. A romance isn’t the high-point of this story, but there is a hero who comes to Becca’s rescue and their one-line come-ons will make you laugh out loud. When Becca signs a contract without having a lawyer read it, the end result is guessed by the reader before it happens.

Between The Pages of this story you’ll find humour, drama, emotion, and sharp characters...all the elements of a great chick lit novel.
