Open Book - Cowboy on Her Doorstep

Today we are opening the book pages of Cowboy on Her Doorstep by author, Pam Mantovani. Pam is sharing the inside scoop on her contemporary romance where between the pages you’ll find a small town, a secret baby, and a cowboy! Cowboy on Her Doorstep was published in July 2014 by Belle Books.

Pam said the title was a suggestion from her editor and the inspiration for Cowboy on Her Doorstep was through brainstorming with her critique partner.

Cowboy on Her Doorstep is about forgiveness, acceptance of past mistakes while trusting in love and the future.

Taking place in a fictional town of Burton Springs Montana, Cowboy on Her Doorstep is a small town, with a popular diner. “Most of the shop fronts are designed to resemble an Old West town,” Pam said. “There’s a Founders Day Celebration at the start of summer, and the people look out for one another.”

In Cowboy on Her Doorstep you’ll meet, Kendall Grant who is the daughter of a preacher. She is now a Deputy Sheriff and the mother of 4 year old Marissa. The hero, Logan Montgomery, is an Army sniper, home on leave following the death of his father. He joined the Army after yet another battle with his father about how he should live his life. He hasn’t been home in more than 5 years.

“Kendall is trying to make a solid, secure life for herself, her daughter and the friend who moved from Billings to Burton Springs with her,” Pam said. “Raised by a father who never seemed to agree with anything she did or wanted to do, she is determined that her daughter never be made to feel as if she has to ‘live up to’ her mother’s expectations. Logan lost a good friend shortly before coming home. Aware that he can’t make peace with his father, he tries instead to bridge the tension between himself and the older brother he left behind. Then, he learns he has a daughter. He understands, and reluctantly accepts, Kendall’s insistence that they not tell Marissa that he’s her father. He wants to be accepted on his own merit, not due to some idea of what a father should be.”

You’ll also meet Audra Black who is Kendall’s best friend, and sometimes babysitter. She is a potter with a past that requires secrecy. She feels she owes Kendall her life.
Carter Montgomery is Logan’s older brother. He grew up knowing the family ranch would be left to him. While he’s content with cattle ranching, Logan always wanted to raise and train horses for the rodeo.
Sheriff Blake Owens is Kendall’s superior. When Kendall’s mother was killed before her eyes during a botched robbery when Kendall convinced her mother to stop at convenience store, it was Sheriff Owens who tried to comfort a traumatized Kendall. He was a mentor to Kendall, practically more a father to her than her own, who buried his grief beneath service to his congregation.
Rhonda Johnston is the Sheriff Department Dispatcher, She’s outrageous and rumored to have been a Vegas showgirl. She’s involved in a relationship with Sheriff Owens.
Further cast members are Tammy Murphy - owner of Tammy’s Table, Robbie Patterson - school friend of Kendall, Harley Barker - an attorney, Dwight Davis - Owner of Feed Store, and Lloyd Miller - owner of The Pit, a bar of dubious reputation which has put him in the sights of the local police.

“Although this might be classified as a ‘secret baby’ story, it differs in that the hero learns in the first chapter he has a child,” Pam explained. “The secret is Kendall and Logan agree to not tell Marissa, allowing her the opportunity to get to know Logan as a person instead of the father she wants. There is also a subplot about friendship and the measures one will take to protect and care for the best of friends. Finally, I think this story is also about redemption. Kendall and Logan find a way to get past their hurts and disappointments. Logan and his brother Carter manage to overcome slights and misunderstandings.”

Pam added, “No matter how many disappointments and challenges you’ve faced in the past, you should trust in the future. Love will often override fears and will give you strength when you need it the most.”

Be sure to check out the follow-up book to Cowboy on Her Doorstep, Cowboy on Her Porch, centered around Audra and Carter, which released on June 28, 2018.

Let’s get a closer look at Cowboy on Her Doorstep.
He left more than a memory behind.

When Army Ranger Logan Montgomery returns to his family’s ranch in western Montana to mourn the loss of his father, he discovers that his best friend had a little girl as the result of their lovemaking the night before he left to join the service. He sets out to prove himself to her – that he’s come home to stay.

Deputy Sheriff Kendall Grant has worked hard to build a stable life for her young daughter, Marissa. When Logan discovers he’s Marissa’s father, Kendall refuses to believe he intends to become a doting daddy. She’s convinced he’ll grow bored with small-town life and re-enlist. More than anything, she’s afraid this time he’ll shatter both her heart and Marissa’s. How can she learn to trust that this time it’s forever?
