This historical story is fueled with deep emotion. The plot is sad and heartbreaking, yet the author draws you into the story until the very last page. Polly has lived such a hard life and longs for light, which she finds in Albert. Every time she finds a small piece of happiness it is stolen from her. While Polly’s and Albert’s love story is short their longing for each other is touching. The cover is striking and dark, which portrays the story perfectly. This book is a great weekend read, but you might want a tissue close by.
