Monday Mood - Bondwitch

This Monday Mood spotlight falls on Bondwitch by Chelsey M. Ortega, a darkly enchanting tale of family secrets, forbidden magic, and a young woman torn between love and legacy.

Book Title: Bondwitch

Release Date: October 16, 2023

Teaser: Their eyes met, and Anna froze as his pupils expanded until they almost covered his brown irises.

Prom night is supposed to be magical, it wasn’t the kind of magic Annamaria was ready for.

Eighteen-year-old Annamaria Lyons has never left her small hometown of Harrison, Wyoming. She has lived with her aunt, Trinity, since her parents died when she was two years old. Trinity has been a wonderful guardian with one exception—she won’t allow Annamaria out of the house after sunset. That is, until the night of senior prom. Annamaria’s long-lost sister arrives, bringing with her a world full of hidden family secrets and the supernatural.

Forced to flee her childhood home without a proper goodbye to her human life and first love, Annamaria immerses herself in the magical world. New friends and a new suitor challenge her original dreams for the future, and when she finds herself caught in the middle of a centuries-old conflict, Annamaria must decide to rise above it or give in to the darkness.

We asked Chelsey what are her three places to visit – and why?
1. Coulee Dam, Washington. My mom grew up in this tiny town in northeastern Washington. I spent every summer there visiting my grandparents and swimming in the Columbia River. It does have tourist attractions. The Grand Coulee Dam is one of the Great Depression dams. They have a bus tour, a museum, a dam tour, and at night there is a laser light show on the dam during the summer. The town also sits on the border of The Colville Indian Reservation. The tribe has a museum in Coulee Dam with a shop selling handmade jewelry and other art. Overall, the town boasts water activities, history, and culture.
2. American Fork Canyon, American Fork, Utah. My family has been camping in American Fork Canyon almost every summer for over thirty years. Though I would consider our version of camping to be on the “upscale” side. We do sleep in tents, but bring actual mattresses to lay on. We bring six gas burning stoves and cook our meals as if we were at home in our kitchen. We spend a day hiking, and another day at the lake.
3. Disneyland, California. I know that’s such a cliché answer, but my husband and I are “Disney Adults” and our kids still love to go. Growing up, one of my sets of cousins went to Disneyland every year, and I was so jealous. My parents were able to take me and my brother once. Taking my kids to Disneyland multiple times during their formative years was a goal of mine that I’m grateful to have accomplished.
