Between The Pages - The Texas Cowboy

The Texas Cowboy
Linda Nightingale
January 2022

When Ash Colter was twelve, his mother divorced his cattle baron father and whisked him away to raise in her native England. Sixteen years later, when his father dies, he inherits Marathon Ranch. Running a 1,000-acre spread famous for the best Black Angus cattle in the great state of Texas is the biggest challenge he’s ever faced…until he meets a pert, pretty, and sassy ranch hand who seems to have her own agenda for his ranch. Unfortunately, she makes his spurs go jingle-jangle-jingle like no one else ever has!

Trish Owens is a real cowgirl, a loner, and, though she’d never admit it, a little lonely. When the “English Cowboy” appears on the scene, her entire way of life is threatened, not only her job, but her beloved Quarter horses. She’s sure he plans to import his thoroughbred horses from England. Worst of all is the chemistry sizzling between them. He makes feelings she thought long dead awaken.

Can these two unwilling allies set aside their differences to put Marathon Ranch in the Winner’s Circle…and to fall in love?

Between The Pages
This book is a contemporary western and has plenty of cowboys and horses, which are shown on the beautiful cover. The author has a good writing voice and visually shows you the horses and setting as though you were standing right there in the barn. Ash and Trish were well-developed characters who are meant to be together. The read is smooth, and the plot has a few twists involving a sick horse, an ex-girlfriend, and rustlers. While the story is told in Ash’s point of view, I would have liked some scenes from Trish, but I really enjoyed this story and will watch for the second book in the Return to Folly series.

Between The Pages - Sinners' Opera

Sinners’ Opera
Linda Nightingale
October 2019

Morgan D'Arcy is an English lord, a classical pianist, and a vampire. He has everything except what he desires most—Isabeau. As the Angel Gabriel he's steered her life and career choice, preparing her to become Lady D'Arcy.

Many forces oppose Morgan's daring plan—not the least of which is Vampyre law.

Isabeau Gervase is a brilliant geneticist. Though she no longer believes in angels, she sees a ticket to a Nobel Prize in Gabriel's secrets—secrets that have led her to a startling conclusion. Gabriel isn't human, and she fully intends to identify the species she named the Angel Genome. Morgan is ready to come back into Isabeau's life, but this time as a man not an angel. Will he outsmart his enemies, protect his beloved and escape death himself? For the first time in eternity, the clock is ticking.

Between The Pages
This paranormal romance is filled with drama, action, and plenty of blood. I haven’t read a vampire book in a while, but the main character, Morgan, with his charm and elegance, made the transition an enjoyable one. This book is long, so don’t expect to read it in one sitting. However, there is something always going on as you turn to the next page. The author places you in the dark scenes filled with intensity. Added twists will have you anticipating what will happen next. The cast of characters are interesting and one of my favourite characters was Isabeau’s friend, Kirsty. When she barrelled into a room with a gun in hand, I was smiling. I hope she gets a story of her own because she would make a good lead heroine. The plot was well done and the dialogue was a good mixture of emotion and wit. The ending was surprising. Not the happy-ever-after I expected. Not even a happy-for-now. The ending leaves you asking questions like...What will happen to Isabeau? What will happen to the baby? What is Morgan’s next step? The epilogue, told in Morgan’s voice, was fun and hinted to a sequel, which I would look forward to reading.

This story has a unique twist on finding love. The plot line of the heroine falling for an android reminded me of a sci-fi movie. I was curious to read how the author brought the story to life in words. The characters are interesting, and the author does a good job on the background of the android development. The addition of a suspenseful twist made this story an enjoyable read.
