On The Menu - Cocktail Dogs and Vodka Slush

Cocktail Dogs in Sauce
by Krista Ames

 Ingredients:
1 bottle BBQ sauce (any kind)
1 stick butter or margarine
½ cup water
½ cup ketchup
Chili powder to taste
3 lbs. hot dogs (cut up or cocktail sausages)

Mix all ingredients. Bring to a boil on stove top. Add hot dogs or cocktail sausages. Let simmer until ready to serve.

Vodka Slush
by Jennifer Daiker

Ingredients:
1 – 6oz cherry jello gelation
2 – 12oz frozen orange juice
2 – 12oz frozen lemonade
64fl oz cranberry juice
4 cups of Vodka
Sprite or 7-Up (2 liters)

A mixing bowl
Storage space in your fridge and 48 hours preparation

Directions (Process takes 48 hours):
With your giant bowl (the ingredient sizes can be deceiving, this is a large portion) add your box of cherry jello, dissolving the mixture with two cups of hot water. Pour in six cups of cold water.
Add both the frozen orange juice and lemonade. It helps to have them thawed a few minutes before hand. Stir.
Once the mixture has been dissolved add four cups of cranberry juice cocktail.
Then add four cups of vodka (for virgin recipes just leave this portion out).
Freeze for 48 hours. Stir periodically (2-4 times a day).
The mixture will thicken and become the slush you’ll desire. Grab wine glasses, add two scoops of slush and fill Sprite to the top and enjoy!

Between the Pages - Shot Through the Heart

Shot Through The Heart
By D’Ann Lindun
August 2012

When Laramie Porter’s sister-in-law Julie is beaten so badly by her husband, Laramie takes her home from the hospital. But just a few minutes after the women arrive home, Julie’s husband, who also happens to be a drug addict and the local police sheriff, shows up at the house on a murderous rampage.

Derrick Garrison is in the mountains moving his cattle when his dog finds a body in the pond.

Fleeing a drug hazed killer, a fire, and a gun-toting old lady bent on collecting a reward, Laramie and Derrick do their best to evade all three...and fall in love along the way.

Between The Pages of this story is an action-packed, page-turner! The visual western setting is written so well, I felt as if I was on a horse too, gathering cattle and escaping fires. The romantic tension between Laramie and Derrick is sweet and sensual. I didn’t want to put this book down! There’s so much action going on, just when you think Laramie and Derrick reach a point where they are safe, something new    happens and they are on the run again.
If you love romance, suspense, non-stop action, and cowboys...this story is a perfect mix.
I highly recommend Shot Through the Heart and have added this author to my ’must read’ list.

Between The Pages - Love's Debt

Love’s Debt

By Rachel Brimble
September 2012

To keep herself from the depths of poverty, Milly Shepherd needs to be appointed manager of the Red Lion Tavern. The elderly owner is in failing health and has promised her the job permanently if no one more suitable applies. Milly will fight with her entire being to make the job her own.

Joseph Jacobs needs to supplement his income to pay off his father's creditors and save him from debtor's prison. Though the job as manager of the local tavern looks promising, Milly is favored by both the owner and customers. Instead, Joseph swallows his pride and agrees to tend bar.

As they work together, their attraction grows, their goals cross, and both Millie and Joseph find they must face their fears --the question is whether they face them alone or together?

Between the Pages of this story is a compelling  historical that places the reader in every scene. The characters are believable and true to their families. Milly is an independent woman trying to prove she can do the job, while Joseph is trying to stay afloat while saving his father from destruction. Neither are looking for love, but their attraction is undeniable. This is a well-crafted sweet romance full of warmth, and a pace that keeps you reading to the end. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Between the Pages - Anything But Vanilla

Anything But Vanilla
By Liz Fielding
May 2013

Even more tempting than ice cream!

Sorrel Amery is determined to make her summer event the talk of the town, and she knows just the way into people's hearts—champagne sorbet! It's the perfect strategy… Until the ice cream parlor's owner runs off, leaving Sorrel's plans melting faster than a sundae in the summer sun.

All Sorrel wants is to get back into her comfort zone, but when the gorgeous Alexander West arrives to help pick up the pieces her life gets shaken up more than ever before! Especially as this globe-trotting adventurer is determined that nothing in Sorrel's life should ever be boring old vanilla again…

Between the Pages of this story is a mouthwatering read that will have you running to the freezer for a bowl of flavoured ice cream! This title is the second in the Amery sisters series. As in the first title, the second includes enjoyable quotes from Rosie’s Little Book of Ice Cream at the beginning of each chapter. The only downside to this story was, I found the    initial scene seemed to continue through the first   several chapters. I wanted Sorrel and Alexander to get out of the shop and start interacting. The scene at the catering event was humorous and fun to read. The ending was priceless, filled with so much emotion that will bring a tear to your eye. I can’t wait to read the next sister’s story!
